What is Avandia?

Avandia (rosiglitazone maleate) is a drug manufactured by GlaxoSmithKline for people with type 2 diabetes mellitus (“high blood sugar”). Type 2 diabetes is also referred to as “adult-onset” diabetes and “non-insulin dependent” diabetes. Avandia was approved in 1999 as a supplement to diet and exercise to control blood sugar levels in adults with Type 2 diabetes.

What are the Side Effects of Avandia?

Recent studies have linked Avandia with serious cardiovascular problems including heart attack and cardiovascular death. Women taking Avandia may face an increased risk of bone fracture. Patients taking Avandia may also be at risk of developing a cardiovascular disease called primary pulmonary hypertension (PPH). While PPH is most commonly associated with a higher-than normal blood pressure in the pulmonary artery, it has also been shown to be associated with the development of heart valve disease and/or heart valve defects.

Other symptoms related to Avandia include swelling (edema), low blood sugar (hypoglycemia), weight gain, liver problems, and anemia.

Avandia Injury

We are actively investigating cases for patients who suffered a heart attack, death, or other cardiac event within two (2) weeks of taking Avandia.
